Alchemist Egger

Back for 2025 we are offering our Alchemist Eggers!

We are always listening to our amazing loyal customers for what they enjoy most in our birds. You all love the sweet temperament, the colorful eggs, the amazing egg laying ability, the climate resilience AND frizzled feathers!

We are combining all of your favorite attributes into one new chicken breed that is sure to bring you joy as they grow into adulthood and for many years to come. These are a standard sized bird so if you have been eyeing our frizzled bantam Cochins with longing but wishing they were bigger, our Alchemist Eggers are for you.

These amazing birds are based on our beloved moss and coco eggers with a new twist – every chick has a 50/50 chance of being frizzled AND females can lay colors ranging from speckled cream, blues, light greens, deep greens to coco browns. Each chick and adult they grow into is a true surprise, a constantly evolving possibility of feather and egg colors – hence their name. A flock of these birds alone will yield an incredible rainbow basket. One breed to rule them all? This just may be it! A little larger than a standard sized hen or roo, these birds can take high heat as well as low cold temperatures as long as proper shelter and support is provided. Our frizzle genes are from the lovely breeders at Sky Girl Farm and Open Gate Poultry, the genetic diversity on this group is vast making them robust amazing birds.

Alchemist Eggers come in splash, blue and black feather colors with a 50/50 chance of being a frizzle.

Each chick is sold straight run meaning each chick has a 50/50 chance of being male or female.

Chicks $15 each

One breed, every color in the basket — with a 50% chance of frizzled feathers.

Alchemist Eggers are our experiment in concentrating everything our customers love into a single breed. They lay across the full color spectrum — speckled cream, blues, light greens, deep greens, and coco browns. They carry the sweet temperaments we breed for across our whole flock. And every chick has a 50% chance of growing in frizzled feathers — those distinctive curling, outward-pointing plumes that give the breed its showpiece look.

This is a standard-sized bird, not a bantam — so unlike most frizzle breeds (which are typically frizzled Cochins), Alchemist Eggers give you the visual drama of a frizzle with the size and laying capacity of a full-grown layer. Back for 2025 and continuing into 2026.

What Makes Our Alchemist Egger Different

  • 50/50 chance of frizzled feathers — every chick is a coin flip for the dramatic curled plume.
  • Rainbow egg basket from a single breed: blues, greens, browns, speckled creams.
  • Standard-sized — bigger and more productive than the typical bantam Cochin frizzles.
  • Frizzle genetics sourced from respected breeders at Sky Girl Farm and Open Gate Poultry.
  • Vast genetic diversity built from our Moss and Coco Egger lines.
  • Climate-resilient: handles both high heat and cold (with proper shelter).

Care Basics

  • Frizzled birds have less feather insulation than smooth-feathered birds. Make sure the coop is well-insulated and draft-free in cold climates.
  • In hot climates the frizzle is an advantage — better airflow keeps them cooler.
  • Frizzled feathers are more delicate. Keep nest boxes clean and roosts smooth to avoid feather damage.
  • 3-4 sq ft of coop per hen, 10+ sq ft of run space.

Common Questions

Will my Alchemist Egger be frizzled?

It’s a coin flip. Approximately 50% of chicks grow in with frizzled feathers; the other 50% have smooth feathering. We can’t predict at hatch which will be which.

What egg color will I get?

It depends on the individual hen. Across a flock of Alchemist Eggers you’ll typically see speckled cream, blue, light green, deep green, and coco brown. Each individual hen lays one consistent color across her life.

Are they good for cold climates?

Yes if you provide a well-insulated, draft-free coop. Frizzled feathers offer less insulation than smooth feathers, so the housing matters more for this breed than for most. In hot climates the frizzle is an active advantage.

Can I keep them with other breeds?

Absolutely — Alchemist Eggers integrate well in mixed flocks. They’re not aggressive.
